Adventure in the Jungle of Nicaragua
I’ve done plenty of nature tours before, but nothing compares to this jungle and river expedition in Nicaragua. The moment our small boat pushed off from the dock and started gliding along the emerald-green river, I knew we were in for something special.
The journey through the jungle waterways was pure magic — mist rising off the surface, monkeys calling from the trees, and flashes of color as parrots darted overhead. Our guide had an incredible eye; he spotted wildlife I never would have seen on my own — crocodiles camouflaged on the banks, tiny tree frogs clinging to leaves, and a sleepy sloth hanging lazily above us.
The best part? The boat gave us access to remote corners of the rainforest you can’t reach by land. At one point, we turned into a narrow canal lined with tangled roots and vines — it felt straight out of an adventure movie. Later, we hiked a short trail to a hidden waterfall and cooled off with a dip in a crystal-clear pool.
By the time we headed downriver to San Carlos, the sun was setting and the jungle was alive with sound. It was one of those rare travel experiences that makes you feel small — in the best way — and deeply connected to nature.
If you love adventure, wildlife, and raw, untamed beauty, this tour belongs at the top of your Nicaragua bucket list.
Troy Tours’ Nicaragua Jungle Tour on Rio San Juan
This Nicaraguan jungle tour was a true adventure from start to finish! From the moment we boarded our riverboat and set off through dense rainforest waterways, it felt like entering a different world. Towering trees, echoing howler monkeys, and the distant calls of tropical birds surrounded us as we navigated the twisting jungle rivers.
Our guide led us deep into the wild — spotting crocodiles sunbathing on muddy banks, colorful toucans perched high in the canopy, and sloths lazily hanging above the water. The aquatic journey added a thrilling edge, with narrow channels and hidden lagoons that made us feel like explorers discovering untouched territory.
We stopped for a short hike into the heart of the rainforest, where the air was thick with the scent of earth and orchids. Every turn revealed something new — cascading waterfalls, ancient trees, and flashes of bright butterflies.
Lunch by the river was a well-deserved break: fresh local food served under a canopy of green. On the way back, the afternoon light danced across the water, making the whole jungle glow.
If you crave adventure and want to experience Nicaragua’s wild side in its purest form, this tour is a must. Be ready to get a little wet, a little muddy, and completely amazed.

Our jungle tour in Nicaragua with Troy Tour was an unforgettable experience that perfectly combined natural beauty, adventure, and authentic local charm. Traveling deep into the lush rainforest by boat through winding jungle rivers and lagoons was a true highlight — the scenery was breathtaking, and the sense of tranquility was unmatched.
Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, pointing out exotic birds, howler monkeys, and even a few caimans along the way. The aquatic transportation added a unique perspective, allowing us to access pristine areas untouched by roads and to glide silently through mangrove tunnels alive with wildlife sounds.
The tour was well-organized, with plenty of time for exploration, short hikes, and even a refreshing swim in a natural lagoon. The fresh tropical lunch served by the riverbank was delicious and gave us a taste of Nicaraguan hospitality.

Group of us just returned from Nicaragua. Our guide, Jose, spoke flawless English, and offered interesting information about the local vegetation, wildlife, and history. He is also an excellent photographer and helped us get some great pictures during both tours. He positioned us to enjoy phenomenal sunsets. Although the photographs are fabulous, they do not do the memories justice.
AMAZING We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Seeing the rain forest was like something out a movie. I had never seen so many shades of green! The staff were excellent and knowledgeable. A great tour and must We traveled March 2019
