Hotel Rio Indio Lodge

The Río Indio Adventure Lodge was developed by a group of environmentally conscientious investors from North America, Nicaragua and Costa Rica who wanted to introduce this 1,600 sq. kilometer Indio Maíz World Heritage National Park to people that care about the environment and its pristine beauty. After a 2 ½ year environmental impact study, the carefully designed construction began using Nicaragua’s finest hand craftsmen, and wood from tree farms and reforestation programs. It took three years to build after surpassing many logistical problems of material transportation down the seasonal jungle rivers. Our goal was to create local jobs, operate a sustainable project and staff the lodge with local native people, mostly of the Rama tribe. The main facility of Río Indio measures 1275m2 or 13719sq feet and is hand crafted by renowned Nicaraguan artisans. The beautiful main building with its 40-foot central ceiling and Spanish tile floors is the center piece of the lodge. Our gourmet restaurant, lobby and one of two on-site bars are located here. Each of the 27 cabins have been built on “stilts” over the jungle floor which allows for a canopy view of the river and Captain Morgan’s Lagoon. Measuring 700 square feet each, they have been constructed out of the wood from tree farms and using local craftsmen, the private and sophisticated rooms are very open and are outfitted with 2 comfortable queen-size beds, overhead fans, and a large, ornately-tiled bathroom. Additionally, each room has a screened-in deck, where you can relax and enjoy the amazing views of the water and the surrounding wildlife. Río Indio Lodge provides daily room service, fresh towels and, in case you forgot to bring them, complimentary shampoo and soap.

Hotel Refugio Bartola Lodge

The Solentiname Archipelago with its 36 islands is the product of volcanic eruptions. Since pre-Columbian times it was a sacred place for the indigenous. Although multiple stone art are preserved at Indian cemeteries and religious relics. The unique flora and fauna of the Archipelago in Lake Nicaragua, transmits its harmony to each of its guests - discovery of the new slowness, a pleasure for soul and body.

Jungle, beaches, cloud forest, waterfalls, rainbows, fresh fruit, exotic animals We had a seamless experience with Troy Tours. I flew in to Augusto C. Sandino International Airport. Going through customs, etc was so easy- as Troy Tours provided an English speaking rep there to walk with us the whole way through, to our airport transport, who was waiting for us in an air conditioned van. There were 6 people in our group. You will want to save time for going into the little towns. The locals are all very nice and the food was always good. We would just go eat where locals referred us or where we saw a lot of other people go, which worked great for us. Rio Indio Lodge was absolutely gorgeous. We loved having our own casita with a balcony. The balcony had hammock, and comfy chairs to sit and watch the rain storm or look out at the Lagoon. During Night Hike, we saw a sloth, green viper snake, an armadillo, owl, lots of bats, spiders, millipedes (don't touch, they are poisonous), centipedes, butterflies, frogs, caterpillars. I'm sure I am forgetting some. Troy Tours exceeded our expectations on every level. The emails they send prior to the trip have great advice on packing and what to expect. HAPPY TRAVELER
