Our Classic Turkey tour spends an idyllic 14 days exploring the past – and the present – on one of the most beautiful countries in the world. From icons like Istanbul's Blue Mosque to the intriguing underground city of Kaymakli, this great-value journey covers Turkey's essential wonders with a few surprises along the way. As you traverse diverse lands and cultures, you'll meet local craftspeople like the rug-makers of Cappadocia, who carry on the ancient methods of their trade.
Day 1 - Depart U.S.
Depart the United States for Istanbul, Turkey on Turkish Airlines.
Day 2 - Istanbul
Hos Geldiniz! Welcome to Turkey! Upon your arrival in Istanbul, you will be met by a Troy Tours representative and transferred to your hotel.

Day 3 - Istanbul
After breakfast, you will visit the Blue Mosque, built in only 7 years by order of Sultan Ahmet I in 1609. It gets its name from the blue Iznik tiles that cover the inside. Stroll through Topkapi Palace, with its impressive displays of jewelry, porcelain, clocks, miniatures, textiles, and religious artifacts. "Topkapi" means "Gate of the Cannon" for the Byzantine arsenal once situated where the Palace now stands. Visit St. Sophia, the Christian masterpiece whose construction was presided over by the Emperor Justinian. The day's tour ends with a visit to the Grand Bazaar, a shopper's delight with more than 4000 shops from which to choose.

Dinner is your own
Day 4 - Ankara
Today you will cross the Bosphorus to the Asian Continent and continue to Ankara. You will visit the Anatolian Civilization Museum housed in a 15th century covered bazaar and inn. It contains a rich collection of Hittite artifacts, which date to the beginning of the 2nd century B.C. There are also masterpieces of other cultures that flourished in the Anatolian heartland.

Meals: Dinner is your own
Day 5 - Cappadocia
After breakfast, your tour continues to Cappadocia, passing a large salt lake. Enroute, you will visit a Caravanserai, many of which were built throughout the countryside by Seljuk and Osmanli rulers as inns for weary travelers and their animals. You will then stop at the picturesque village of Uchisar.

Meals: Dinner is at the hotel.
Day 6 - Cappadocia
Today's visit takes you to the labyrinthine tunnels of an underground city, with numerous levels carved out of the earth containing chapels, living quarters, kitchens, stores, and cellars. Many of these amazing cities were so well hidden that they were not discovered until the 1950's. The tour then proceeds to Goreme Valley and the open-air museum of Zelve, with their impressive rock churches and frescoes.

Meals: Dinner is at the hotel.
Day 7 - Antalya
After breakfast, drive to the holy city of Konya, home of the Sufi mystic, Mevlana Rumi, and visit the Museum of the Whirling Dervishes and the Selcuk Mosaic Museum.
Continue to Antalya, the jewel of Turkey's Mediterranean coast, aptly named the "Turquoise Coast."

Day 8 - Antalya
Today's half-day tour takes you for a visit to the vast ruins of Perge, with its Acropolis, thermal baths, Roman basilica, and paving stones that still exhibit the marks of chariot wheels. Meals: Dinner is at the hotel.
Day 9 - Pamukkale
Today, your tour travels to Pamukkale, where calcareous water cascading over the mountainside, forming numerous levels of water basins and white stalactites, has given it the colorful name of "Cotton Fortress." While there, you will visit the ruins of Hierapolis, founded in 190 B.C. by the King of Pergamum.

Meals: Dinner is at the hotel.
Day 10 - Kusadasi
After breakfast, visit Aphrodisias, the remains of an ancient city that flourished in the 1st century B.C. Archaeological excavations are ongoing, uncovering a wealth of artifacts, the remains of a once thriving community of 60,000 inhabitants. Continue to the resort town of Kusadasi.

Meals: Dinner is at the hotel.
Day 11 - Kusadasi
You will have a half-day tour of the ruins of Ephesus, one of the largest archaeological sites in the world. Founded in the 13th century B.C., it was an important center of Christianity, where the Apostles Paul and John preached the infant religion. Return to Kusadasi. The afternoon is free.

Meals: Dinner is at the hotel.
Day 12 - Canakkale
After breakfast, drive along the Aegean to the famous ruins of Pergamum, the site of one of the Seven Churches of Asia Minor. Next, visit legendary Troy where you can see a replica of the wooden horse. Once thought to be the figment of literary imagination, Troy was uncovered due largely to the efforts of Heinrich Schliemann, who steadfastly believed in its existence, using his own money to successively uncover nine different settlements in Troy.

Meals: Dinner is at the hotel.
Day 13 - Istanbul
After breakfast, the tour will cross the Dardanelles, the Hellespont of antiquity, and site of fierce battles during World War I. Continue to Istanbul. You will have the evening at leisure.

my family of 4(including a 4 year old) went on the Classic Turkey tour in november. We had an amazing time. I have travelled a lot but never on a group tour. This was one of the best trips we have ever had. Everything was taken care of, we just sat back and enjoyed. The hotels were nice, the tours were nice. The only thing you might want to consider is that you travel on a bus from city to city which can be many hours on the bus. We however didnt mind because it allowed us to really see the country. If you travel with kids just make sure to take something they can watch movies on while on the bus. I had many questions and Can was always very prompt at answering, actually all of my emails were answered within the hour. We were very satisfied with the whole experience

I just returned from the 2 week Classic tour of Turkey about a week ago. It is really dawning on me how much I saw, learned, and experienced. Turkey was a country I knew little about so I had no real idea what to expect. It was wonderful. Everyone was so friendly, the food was sooo, sooo good, the sites varied and sometimes overwhelming, and the history of the country so extensive that I was and am amazed at all I saw and learned. Thank you for taking me to a country I will always be grateful I had a chance to visit and learn about.

Excellent tour company with superb service My husband and I just returned from our trip from Turkey with Troy Tours and could not be happier. The tour was superb and much more than we had expected. They are very professional and their service is excellent. We had taken the Classic Turkey tour for 14 days and each day seemed to top the previous one. Our guide Erkal was amazing and his knowledge about the sites and history is truly impressive. He went out of his way, to explain and answer any questions we had. He even made special trips to show us places of interest that were not in the itinerary. Our driver Erkan, was very good and we felt safe in his hands. We traveled over 2200 miles and Erkan made sure we arrived at each site on time and we were very comfortable with his safe driving habit. Our hotels were in great locations and the meals that were included were very good and impressive. Erkal picked good restaurants for us for lunches and he was always there to help us with our choices and helped bridge the language barrier with the locals. He put in extra effort to make sure we were all comfortable and enjoy the trip. Overall we are highly impressed with the trip and will definitely recommend Troy tours to all friends and family. We loved that they keep the number of travelers to a small group unlike most tours that cater to large crowds. There were 11 in our group and we all bonded and had an awesome time together. We will not hesitate to book with Troy tours for our future trips. Visited October 2015

Cappadocia !! The Bursa Silk Markets!! The beaches at Anatalya!! Pumakkale !!! Unbelievable sights !! And Anzac Cove - a very emotional experience. Naturally, there was "never enough time" wherever we stopped, to see and soak in the country - but it was wonderful

We travelled with Troy Tours in Sep, traversing intoxicating Turkey by coach, but I quickly learn the coach is just a means of transportation, albeit a rather comfortable variety. To be honest I've never considered coach travel before, picturing long days spent on an uncomfortable bus, perhaps sitting beside a hardcore knitter – or even worse – a hardcore knitter who won't shut up. But I was a coach travel neophyte. We spend around two hours on the coach most days, and it's very comfortable. The seats have serious extending capabilities, there is plenty of legroom, there's a toilet on board, and there's even wifi when driving through large cities. A few days prior to getting lost in the bazaar we had a completely different dining experience. Arriving into the picturesque mountain-side village of Demircidere, we were welcomed by wide-smiling locals clad in colorful, patterned traditional dress, and after sampling home-made wine and freshly baked bread we formed groups of four and went our separate ways to the various homes peppered around the town. We laughed while attempting to communicate with each other over a delicious meal of olives, soup, yoghurt, crisp-fried börek and dolma, all chased down with more gutsy wine. Trafalgar call this local dining experience is a popular component of many of their itineraries. I sure felt welcomed as a guest in a small tourist-free village (we were the only tourists there) I would probably not have been able to find on my own. Sometimes we ate at low-key local eateries staring out to the sea, dipping doughy just-baked bread into the best olive oil I've ever tasted. Other times we went to flash restaurants with stunning city skyline views and feasted on fancy, regional delicacies washed down with more local wines and cocktails. Our charismatic guide Erkal was a never-ending source of knowledge. Best olive oil in Turkey? Where to find the most beautiful ceramics? What time will the coach arrive at A, B and C? Erkal had an answer for everything… almost. When he didn't someone else jumped on board the coach. When visiting Gallipoli a local expert took the group around the poignant site, delving into the history and significance of an event that will never be forgotten. We explored the 2000-year-old marble city of Ephesus with another local specialist by our side revealing facts and figures about the archeology and the biblical legacy of the stunning site. Cappadocia was one of my highlights and the local guide (an author, speaker and archeologist) made the amazing cave city even better with his insider knowledge. And when it was just Erkal, he joked and chattered, usually utilizing the last half hour on the coach before reaching a destination to talk about the upcoming sight's significance and history. This meant we had more free time everywhere we went. There was of course also quiet time on the coach and there's something calming about just staring out the window watching the world – a new and exotic world – go past. Travel is impossible without transportation. We fly to one destination, then often it's a cab, a bus, a train, a boat… you get the drift. Often the most beautiful places take longer to reach, are harder to get to, and some – like Demircidere village – you mightn't get there at all. Travelling with Troy Tours opened my eyes up to coach tours. Everything from transportation and meals, to luggage pick-ups and wake-up calls was arranged, and I sort of expected that. What I didn't envisage was laughing hard, learning a lot, sleeping a little, and walking away wanting to do it again.

Last month we returned from Classic Turkey Tour with Troy Tours. Our trip was Oct 4-18, 2014. I booked my trip online. It was very easy to book. It is just a few simple steps on Troy Tours secure website. When I had a follow questions Can Cetin of Troy Tours was wonderful, helpful, personable and totally professional. I took Turkish Airlines nonstop flight from JFK. Turkish Airlines was great, comfortable and had plenty of delicious meals and free drinks. I booked Troy Tours Classic Turkey with the recommendation of our friends they took the same tour last year. This was only our 3rd bus tour and we have no problems we enjoy it a lot. We had 26 friendly travel companions of the bus we made a lot of friends. Hotels exceeded our expectations especially Charisma Hotel in Kusadasi was our favorite. It is located on the water. We stayed at Ocean front room. Loved it!. On this Classic Turkey tour we covered roughly 2000 miles. It is a voyage through the History and civilizations. It is simply amazing. Our tour bus was very comfortable with plenty of leg room and reclining seats thus we had the chance to stretch our legs. The bus was also very clean and in superb condition. There were 45 seats on the bus so everyone who wanted a window seat was able to find one. This is a big plus for Troy Tours. I can’t say enough about our guide “Mine”. She is well educated with commending English and she has vast knowledge of Turkey. Most important of all she loves what she is doing and very kind and personable. This was a great experience with Troy Tours and it was beyond our expectations. We stayed at top notch hotels, top notch guide and transportation. Over all this tour is a great value for the price.

Volkan met all the needs of all his passengers with patience and grace throughout our journey. We all came home with many treasures. Thank you, Troy Tours, for making this such an enjoyable experience. It was flawless. Leslie and Len

We would like to thank Troy Tours company for putting together and supporting 15 days of one wonder after another. While other tour operators offered similar tours, we chose your tour for its content, which exceeded what other tour companies offered for the same price, or number of days. We were not disappointed! I was most impressed with Ms Mine. I compliment Turkey for their licensing program, resulting in the dedicated and well-informed guides. Mine was constantly gracious, thoroughly informed, and quick to handle well any problem that presented itself. She took over in the various points of interest to give so many dates, historical facts etc. and held our interest when our feet and legs screamed "no more walking and no more cobblestones"! Your radio system was more than adequate especially with many senior citizens not hearing as well as they might. Mine several times said "I love these radios!" after using them in the St Sophia and the Topkapi Palace to round up stragglers in our party. Our compliments to the bus drivers! We were always on time, and their abilities to navigate the roads were amazing! Mehmet stands out, but all excelled in technical abilities and pleasant personalities. We shall be pleased to recommend your organization and wish you the best in your future business.

I recently returned from a Troy Tours 15-day Classic tour of Turkey. The tour exceeded all my expectations. The hotels were terrific, the logistics played out flawlessly, and the itinerary was perfectly planned and executed. Overall, I was amazed at the value of the tour for the price I paid. The tour guide, Omer was knowledgeable and an absolute delight to be with every day. Without disrupting the group, he accommodated our individual needs/wants. He was flexible but still totally in control. This was one of the best travel experiences ever. I was hesitant about joining a group tour, as I typically travel with one friend or alone. But the group was limited to ten and it was great fun to get to know the others and share meals and a lot of laughs. Turkey is amazing. If you are considering it, please go. No doubt, I will return.

Troy Tours 15 Day Classic Turkey - Excellent Tour!! We just returned from the Classic Turkey tour of Turkey operated by Troy Tours. We booked the tour the based on the good reviews on the tripadvisor.com Our tour guide, Mine, was excellent. We toured over 20 years ago and Mine was by far so knowledgeable in comparison and passed along a lot of information, we learned so much that you can't pick up from reading alone. She made the experience wonderful. She was very helpful for those w/dietary restrictions and made sure the tour ticked like a finely tuned clock. Our driver, Ahmet, was also excellent. He manouvered the streets through the mountain towns like a true pro. The bus was always clean and he was always there to help anyone on or off. The bus itself have plenty of legroom - the right side of the bus had less space between the seats than the left (driver's side). We didn't realize this until we "rotated" our seats daily and finally got to sit on the left. Turkey is not what it was twenty years ago. It is much more commercialized; more people speak English; developed quite a bit. Be prepared to spend with the dollar being down...be prepared to walk a lot...but, be prepared to have the trip of a lifetime - you will never see anyplace so beautiful with so much art and history. PRE-TRAVEL PLANNING -- On balance, we were very pleased with our 15-day “Classic Turkey” tour. (The time in Turkey was actually 13 nights, with the remaining two days getting us to/from Turkey.) We booked with Troy Tours in the US, using a Travelzoo offer, and I was impressed with the level of support from Jose Sanidad, the travel expert with Troy Tours. He answered countless questions, helped us with requests to get precisely the seats we wanted on the Turkish Airlines flight, and guided us on other issues. Absolutely top-notch. AIR TRAVEL -- the Turkish Airlines flight (a non-stop from NYC’s JFK to Istanbul) was pleasant. In fact, our Coach-class seats (and the service of the helpful flight attendants) was much better than comparable flights on US-flag carriers, in my experience. One quirk: Turkish Airlines booked our flights in something called “W-Class” which meant that we did not get frequent flyer mileage credit with United Airlines, an airline partner. ARRIVAL -- The “meet-and-assist” at Istanbul Airport was not bad. We initially had a bit of trouble linking with our Troy Tours representative, as he was at our arrival area. We found him fairly quickly bu following the instruction we got from Troy Tours before we left. He put us on a Troy Tours bus for our hotel. The airport itself is clean, modern, and has good signage. HOTELS -- The hotels were surprisingly good, MUCH nicer than I expected for the price. We stayed at the Wyndham Old City (Istanbul), CP Ankara (Ankara), Lodge Cappadocia (Cappadocia), Tripolis (Pamukkale), Korumar (Kusadasi) and the Tusan (Canakkale). Service levels varied a bit, and internet access was unreliable at all hotels, but the rooms and other facilities were nice. TRAVEL -- We had ten people in our group, seated in a comfortable 14-person Mercedes van, and the long road trips were pretty comfortable. Our driver, Kemal, was excellent. The length of our drives varied by day, of course, but were all manageable. Three of the days involved 6-8 hour drives, but they weren’t bad because we stopped frequently to stretch our legs and use the facilities. (The van did not have a bathroom.) Western-style toilets were readily available at all stops. MEALS -- Hotel breakfasts were large and plentiful, and always buffet-style. Lunches; the long drives meant that we usually lunched at highway “rest stops” each day. I understand that timing might have precluded getting well off the road, into a village, for lunch. We had 2 village stop for the lunch. Dinners were buffets at the various hotels. That’s understandable, in terms of the logistics of moving and feeding a group – especially after a long drive during the day – but it would have been nice to sample local restaurants on some evenings. (Breakfasts and dinners were, for the most part, included in the price of the trip. We paid for our own lunches.) VENUES – Turkey is an amazing country, and we visited sites that I’ll remember for the rest of my life. Because these sites are accurately portrayed in the travel literature and elsewhere on the internet, I won’t provide details here. Suffice it to say that they were all we expected, and more. SUMMARY -- GOOD NEWS: The trip was excellent, our guide (Volkan) was very knowledgeable, and the driver (Kemal) was friendly and highly professional. As noted, the hotels were excellent choices for the price paid. The locations were visited were stunning, and the hot air balloon ride over Cappadocia was even more amazing than I expected. Review of our Troy Tours Classic of Turkey Tour Last month we returned from Classic Turkey Tour with Troy Tours. Our trip was Nov 2-16, 2012.

I recently returned from the May 2012" Classic Turkey" tour by Troy Tours of Los Angeles. There were 28 sociable people in our group so we all laughed a lot. The tour was fantastic--we saw and experienced so many different parts of Turkey which is a beautiful and interesting country. Istanbul, Mediterranean and Agean coasts, Ephesus and Cappadocia were some of the highlights for me. I only wish we had more time to explore in each location. It was so nice to have that last free day in Istanbul. Our guide, Erkal, was great and very knowledgeable. There were a couple of long days on the bus but we covered so much territory. Also, I am not a big fan of the "shopping stops" but they seem to be a staple of any group tour. Turkish airlines was great--good food and service. I would recommend this tour to anyone. Can: We cannot thank you enough for the remarkable tour you gave us through Turkey. Everyone had stellar comments and reactions during and after we returned last Wed night. Erkal was the greatest and we made him part of our family. Jelan the driver was the best --- friendly, helpful and what a driver! I have attached an article of reflections that I wrote for our Dec. church newsletter. We will probably do something in Jan/Feb to share the trip with the many in our congregation who did not go but who are waiting anxiously to hear more about the trip. Happy thanksgiving to you, and thanks to Troy Tours. We have lots of photos, and you can see them on a website called photobucket, where some are uploading their photos. God bless you and your family, Jack Tour Host

My husband and I took the 15 day Classic Turkey Tour in September of 2012 based on a TripAdvisor review. The tour was a great value. Prices included 4 and 5 star hotels with great locations. The food was excellent and choices appealed to all tastes. However, the shining point of the tour package was that included all sightseeing and admission fees, nothing was optional. We had a very informative English-speaking guide (Yeliz) with a firm grasp of Turkish history and culture. She was an absolute treasure. We highly recommend this tour without any hesitation.

my family of 4(including a 4 year old) went on the Classic Turkey tour in november.

I traveled with Troy on the Classic of Turkey tour, commencing in Istanbul on 5 July 2015. What a Fabulous tour!! We had such a Fantastic tour guide -- Mustafa. He was so very knowledgeable, helpful, kind, with a great sense of humour. Our driver, Mehmet, was a very safe and skillful bus-herder. The tour surpassed my every wish: we saw whirling dervishes, beautiful scenery, My notebook - and diary - and camera - are full of notes, memories and beautiful pictures. The very nice Hotels !!
